Nous savons peu de choses d'Amélie Talexis qui est née à Toulouse sans doute en 1875 et commença par étudier le piano et le violoncelle au Conservatoire de cette ville où elle obtint ses Premiers Prix dans ces disciplines à seulement 13 ans. Puis elle se mit à étudier le chant avec Rondile et Lhérie (le Créateur de Don José) à Paris. Elle débuta en 1899 dans Marguerite de Faust au Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux. Elle fit partie de la troupe de la "French Opera House" de La Nouvelle-Orléans pendant la Saison 1900-01, où elle assura la création locale de Mimi dans La Bohème de Puccini, en français, et assura sans doute les rôles français du répertoire joué à ce moment-là. Elle retourna ensuite en France et se produisit à Nice, Nantes et Anvers avant d'apparaître au Liceo de Barcelone dans Aïda (en italien à ce moment-là). On la vit ensuite sur des scènes italiennes et elle fit enfin des débuts isolés à La Scala de Milan en 1906 dans Donna Anna de Don Giovanni. Après 1906 elle entreprit des tournées en Amérique du Sud, aussi bien à La Havane, qu'à Buenos Aires (où elle rechante Donna Anna en 1906) et à Mexico. Promise sans doute à une brillante carrière de grand soprano lyrico-spinto / dramatique, elle mourut malheureusement tragiquement à seulement 36 ans d'un accident dans les toilettes d'un hôtel de Calais le 8 novembre 1911, alors qu'elle allait s'embarquer pour l'Angleterre. Mais elle avait été remarquée par la Fonotipia dès 1905 et elle y grava à Milan un certain nombre de faces de grande qualité chantées en italien, un peu plus tard, à Paris elle enregistra aussi en français pour Odéon de 1906 à 1910. (Elle grava environ une centaine de faces, dont un bonne partie publiée.

We know very little about Amélie Talexis, who was born in 1875 and began her career by studying piano and cello at the local Conservatoire, winning first prizes in both disciplines when she was only 13. She went on to study with Rondile and Lhérie (creator of Don José) in Paris. She made her debut in 1899 as Marguerite in Faust at the Grand Théâtre in Bordeaux. She was a member of the company of the French Opera in New Orleans during the season of 1900-1 where she took on the role of Mimi in the local premiere of Puccini’s La Bohème, sung in French and doubtless other French roles currently in the repertoire. She returned to France and performed in Nice, Nantes and Antwerp before appearing at the Liceo in Barcelona as Aida (this time singing in Italian). She was heard in various Italian theatres and made her sole appearance at La Scala, Milan in 1906 as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni. After 1906 she undertook tours in south America, appearing in Havana and Buenos Aires (where she again sang Donna Anna in 1906) and in Mexico.
On the brink of a brilliant career as a lyrico-spinto and dramatic soprano, she died tragically in an accident at a hotel in Calais on November 8 1911, as she was about to embark for England. But she had been noticed by Fonotipia in 1905 and she made a number of recordings of fine quality, singing in Italian and somewhat later in Paris she also recorded in French for Odéon from 1906-10 (She recorded approximately 100 sides of which many were published)
