Jean Brazzi est né le 30 mai 1936 à Troyes, où il y fait ses études au Lycée. Parallèlement il étudie le piano, le solfège, la comédie. Il travaille le chant avec Georges Jouatte et l’art lyrique avec Roger Bourdin, tout deux anciens titulaires de l’Opéra de Paris et avec Maurice Franck pour le solfège. Il poursuit son enseignement auprès de Rolande Darcoeur (également professeur d’Alain Vanzo). Il obtient le prix des ténors au concours de Verviers (Belgique) et le prix Caruso en 1960 au festival des voix d’or à Vichy. Il débute aux Concerts Colonne dans : Le Magnificat de Bach, La Neuvième de Beethoven et le Requiem de Verdi. En 1961 il débute dans La Traviata à Besançon. A partir de là il enchaine dans tous les théâtres de France : Lyon, Marseille, Toulon, Calais, Rouen, Nîmes, Nice et en Belgique à Gand, Verviers, Liège. Son répertoire s’étend de Butterfly à Boris Godounov, Turandot, Faust, Iphigénie en Aulide, Werther, Roméo et Juliette, La Nymphe fidèle de Vivaldi, Hérodiade. En 1963 il chantera « I due Foscari « de Verdi pour la RTF. En 1964 il débute à l’Opéra-Comique dans Louise en remplacement d’André Turp. La critique est élogieuse : « belle spontanéité, un charme certain, voix timbrée, vaillante et sonore » et à l’Opéra de Paris dans Faust. Il enchaine avec Adrienne Lecouvreur de Ciléa aux cotés de Suzanne Sarroca et Michèle Vilma, Tosca, qu’il chantera entre autre avec Ghena Dimitrova à Tours, Gianni Schicchi, Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Carmen, Manon, La Navarraise, Médée, Jénufa… Il se perfectionne auprès du Maestro Gaetano Abrami et du baryton Ugo Ugaro. Il aborde, Cavalleria Rusticana, Aida, Lohengrin, Otello, Paillasse. Il participe à la création : de « Colombus « de Werner Egk et de « Sur la Grand Route » d’Alfredo Strano à Rouen en Mars 1969 aux cotés d’Andrée Esposito et de Julien Haas ; de Socrate d’Erik Satie sur le texte de Socrate texte, traduit par Victor Cousin en janvier 1972 à Marseille, dans une mise en scène de Louis Ducreux dans les décors et costumes du peintre Lucien Coutaud. Il fera aussi une carrière internationale en Chantant Werther en 1966 et 1969 au festival de Glyndebourne et Louise à Genève, à Monte Carlo en 1970, Les Contes d’Hoffmann à Mexico et à Madrid, Médée à Lisbonne, Werther à Vienne, Amsterdam et La Haye ainsi qu’au festival de Passau en Allemagne, Roméo au festival de Wexford en Irlande.Jean Brazzi interprètera une dernière fois Paillasse en 1983 à Nîmes. La critique écrira « Douloureux, hagard, déchiré, Canio constitue sans doute sa meilleure incarnation ».
Après plusieurs concerts il se retire des scènes lyriques pour se consacrer à l’enseignement dans les conservatoires de la banlieue parisienne.Il enseignera la technique du chant à sa fille Isabelle Buiret-Fedit, diplômée du CNSM de Paris dans la classe de Mireille Alcantara. Elle fait partie de la troupe de l’Opéra de Bordeaux. Il décède le 7 Mai 1992 à Paris.

Cette réédition présente l’éventail de sa carrière réalisé à partir d’enregistrements privés et ne peut être comparé techniquement à un enregistrement de studio, mais au combien plus vivant. Jean Brazzi a enregistré Werther, les Béatitudes de César Franck et Hérodiade (ORTF 12 mai 1974).

Jean Brazzi was born on May 30th1936 at Troyes, when he studied at the Lycee, at the same time he studied piano, music theory and acting. He worked on singing with Goerges Jouatte, opera with Roger Bourdin, both former members of the Paris Opera and with Maurice Franck for the musical theory. He went on to study with Rolande Darcoeur (also the teacher of Alain Vanzo). He won the tenor’s prize in the Verviers competition and the Caruso prize in 1960 at the festival of the golden voice in Vichy. He made his debut in the Concerts Colonne in; the Bach Magnificat, the ninth symphony of Beethoven and the Verdi Requiem. In 1961 he made his debut in La Traviata at Besancon. From this time he appeared in all the French theatres; : Lyon, Marseille, Toulon, Calais, Rouen, Nîmes, Nice et en Belgique à Gand, Verviers, Liège. . His repertoire extended from Butterfly to Boris Godounov, Turandot, Faust, Iphigenie en Aulide, Werther, Romeo et Juliette, the Faithful Nymph by Vivaldi and Hérodiade. In 1963 he sang in I due Foscari by Verdi for French radio. In 1964 he made his debut at the Opera Comique in Louise replacing Andre Turp. The critics were full of praise “ spontaneity and charm, and attractive timbre, powerful and rich” and at the Paris Opera in Faust. He continued his career with Cilea’s Adriana Lecouvreur with Suzanne Sarroca and Michele Vilma, Tosca which he sang with Ghena Dimitrova at Tours, Gianni Schicchi. He perfected his art with Maestro Gaetano Abrami and with the baritone Ugo Ugaro. He took on Cavalleria Rusticana, Aida, Lohengrin, Otello, Paillasse . He took part in the premieres of “Columbus” by Werner Egk and “Sur la grande route” by Alfredo Strano at Rouen in March 1969 with Andree Esposito and Julien Haas; in Socrates by Erik Satie based on a text of Socrates, translated by Victor Cousin, in January 1972 at Marseilles, in a production by Louis ducreux with sets and costumes by the painter Lucien Coutaud. He also followed an international career sing Werther in 1966 and 1969 at the Glyndebourne Festival and Louise at Geneva and Monte Carlo in 1970, Les Contes d’Hoffmann in Mexico and in Madrid, Medee at Lisbon, Werther in Vienna, Amsterdam and the Hague as well as at the Passau Festival in Germany and Romeo in the Wexford Festival in Ireland.
Jean Brazzi sang Pagliacci for the last time in 1983 at Nimes. The local critic wrote “tragic, haggard and harrowing, Canio certainly remains his best creation.” After several concerts he retired from the stage in order to devote himself to the teaching in the conservatoires of the Paris area.

He taught singing technique to his daughter Isabelle Buiret-Fedit, a graduate of the CNSM in Paris in the class of Mireille Alcantara. She is a member of the company of the Bordeaux Opera.
He died on May 7th 1992 in Paris. This recording presents an overview of his career drawn from private recordings that cannot be compared technically with studio recording, but are much more alive. Jean Brazzi recorded; Werther, Les Beatitudes by Cesar Franck and Hérodiade (ORTF 1974)
