Armed with solid cultural baggage - musical, literary, linguistic and musicological, Jean Nirouet perfected his vocal technique with Germaine Lubin. Jacqueline Bonnardet and at the Paris Conservatoire with Christiane Eda-Pierre in the class in which he was rapidly and unanimously awarded the First-Prize in singing. He succeeded in imposing his counter-tenor voice in an institution that was rather traditional in its education. If his Baroque repertoire was extended and rich, he did not neglect contemporary composers, which set him apart in an musical world that tends to classify interpreters in narrow categories.
He has been in demand with the conductors specializing in the Baroque repertoire such as ; Jean Malgloire,William Christie, Philippe Herreweghe, René Jacobs, the composers Prodromidès, Gousset, Strasnoy, Neuwirth, Pauset have entrusted him with premieres.
The career of Jean Nirouet has unfolded as much in the concert hall as in the opera house, on disc and on the radio. To his students, he offers an education nourished by the study of the great interpreters of the past and today, of whom he has extensive knowledge. He has read and listened widely. This opened up the way for a doctoral thesis on “The art of the late nineteenth century singer, stage practice and gesture, tradition and change at the birth of Verismo, and the affirmation of music drama and the decline of Bel Canto, in particular through the analysis of phonographic and cinemagraphic evidence.”
The programme on this CD is a perfect reflection of the talent and eclecticism of Jean Nirouet.
